International Tuesdays
Internationalisation at Paderborn University is a cross-sectional task and cannot be successful without the effort, energy, and enthusiasm of a great variety of units and people. However, daily tasks often do not leave enough time for an exchange with students or colleagues who may be working in different fields or on entirely different projects.
The event series “International Tuesdays” wants to overcome this. Since the summer semester of 2021 it brings together members of Paderborn University during lunchtime, to present their work or best practices and talk about their ideas and experiences in a casual environment.
When and where do the events take place?
During the lecture period, we offer events on several Tuesdays between 1 and 2 pm, aiming at all interest groups at UPB (students, researchers, lecturers, administrative staff) depending on the individual topic. Students and teachers, researchers and staff, colleagues and those who are generally interested in international topic, are invited to listen, share, and discuss! Usually, the events take place virtually via Zoom.
Please note that one face-to-face events will be offered in the summer semester 2025: On 8 July, the Welcome Services invite you to an information event on the topic of “Hosting Scholars and Students at risk” in room N1.399.
All other events will take place as usual at 1 pm via Zoom. The link can be found on this website in the right column.

Overview Summer Semester 2025
Contact | Dr. Johanna Flore, Audit HRS4R Coordinator |
Description | In February 2025, Paderborn University was awarded the ‘HR Excellence in Research Award’. With this award, the European Commission recognises universities and research institutions that systematically work to improve the working conditions of their researchers. As part of this HRS4R (Human Resources Strategy for Researchers) process, the university has defined six strategic areas for action and developed specific measures, for example to promote career development or improve the supervision and management culture. In order to further enhance the visibility of Paderborn University as an attractive place to work for international researchers, the measures also focus on the targeted expansion of bilingualism in various areas at the UPB. During the event, the HRS4R coordinator will provide an overview of the process at the UPB and present the initiatives and measures that have now been launched as part of HRS4R to further strengthen the framework conditions for researchers at UPB. Take this opportunity to find out more about the HRS4R process, ask questions and learn how you can support the process. Further information on the HRS4R process at the University of Paderborn can be found here. |

For this International Tuesday, Dr. Henriette-Juliane Seeliger invites international doctoral candidates at UPB to join and learn more about the different options for going abroad during the doctorate, such as presenting at international conferences or preparing a research visit of several weeks. The info session provides a basic overview of the steps to take when planning to go abroad. Participants will learn about the different types of stays, funding options, and receive tips for the search for potential supervisors for a research visit. There will also be room for questions and discussion at the end of the event. |

Description | Many researchers are exposed to significant and ongoing threats in their countries of origin due to acute crisis situations. This makes it all the more important that internationally committed institutions such as the University of Paderborn actively support the scientific reorientation of these individuals. Since 2019, the University of Paderborn has been committed to academic freedom for endangered and refugee researchers. The positive experiences gained in the process encourage the UPB to continue this commitment in the future.
